Drawing inspiration from a dream, Ryan painted Two Blue Cats in response to this surreal encounter. The two feline creatures are simply rendered, with black outlines distinguishing them from the blue background. The almost matte flatness of the muted tonal blue creates a wash of calm and ambiguity. With pops of white on one cat’s foot and another’s rear, tie the composition together to create a cohesive order.
