A very active and assertive work, Unsane is actually a tribute to one of Ryan’s most favorite bands. The stars coupled with the bold typography and chevron pattern has an ‘All-American’ tone, arguably even suggestive of 1950s painted wood signs. The experimentation with different patterns and text, and the alternating black and white strokes create an almost kinetic sense of energy. This duality of a strong central form, with the vibrating edges of movement parallels Ryan’s own dichotomy of an artist who works with expressive paints and listens to loud rock music.
