The Invitation

Cronin was invited to participate through Parlor Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ — joining a roster that included Jeff Koons, Julian Schnabel, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Peter Beard. Each participant received a blank egg sculpture and complete creative freedom. The eggs were placed across all five boroughs from April 1–25, with a finale exhibition at Rockefeller Center.

The Work

Painted in his signature high-voltage yellow with bold hand-lettered text and 5¢ fish motifs drawn directly from his painting practice, the piece was unmistakably his — the same visual language that lives on board in his studio, scaled up and set loose in one of the most visited public spaces in the world.

The Painting That Informed It

The egg didn't come from nowhere. Cronin's painting practice has long explored the visual language of American consumer culture — bold color, hand-lettered text, the iconography of candy, currency, and everyday objects elevated into art. Taste Sweet Revenge, from that same body of work, is available through The Cronin Gallery.
