*Water Lilies* takes its source from the lily pond at Mohonk Mountain House. Cronin spent time at the pond during a stay on the property and made the painting from what he carried back.
Color is one of Cronin's languages. Three decades of painting have given him a fluency with how colors hold against each other on a surface, and how they hold inside a person looking at them. The shapes are clean. The palette is sure. *Water Lilies* is a piece where that fluency carries the painting.
A painting that did what the lily pond does. Sat still. Held its color.
