Some Pig came from a children's book and the Cold War. The title comes from Charlotte's Web, the two words Charlotte spins into her web to save Wilbur. The same word carried other weight in the years American kids were reading the book. "Pig" was also a Cold War slur for police. Same word, two meanings, often sitting inside the same childhood.
That doubling is the painting. Cronin builds work that reads on more than one frequency at once. A viewer who knows the references picks up the layering. A viewer who doesn't still gets a strong painting. Both readings are intentional, and the painting holds them in the same field without resolving them.
