World Record Holder II is a constructed circle in two pieces, intentionally imperfect. The form is the subject. Where the earlier World Record Holder I was a painting of a vinyl record sitting inside a square board, World Record Holder II makes the form itself, the entire painting built as the record.
Originally commissioned for Gotham, Season 2, Episode 15. The work extends Cronin's long-running interest in signage and typography. Bold lettering, flat color, immediate read, on a form that breaks the rectangle. The slight asymmetry of the circle suggests the skip, the repetition, the daily effort behind every record ever broken.
