Working in a similar vein as Peter Blake, Robert Indiana and James Rosenquist, Ryan Cronin explores advertisement practices and design-oriented signage. Appearing as an almost advertisement for the Ferguson TE20, the painting 1952 Ferguson pays homage to old school American industry and manufacturing. The Ferguson TE20 was an agricultural tractor designed by Henry Ferguson which was manufactured from 1946 until 1956. At the time, it was popular for being lightweight and is now a celebrated collectorâs item. With a fairly monotone color palette, the attention is drawn to the year of the make (1952) and the fact that it is âFor Sale.â The design is very centralized and the text is drawn in sketchily which is suggestive of the artistâs hand and involvement in the work.
