*World Record Holder I* is a painting of a vinyl record. The record sits inside a square 48" x 48" board, intentionally imperfect at its edges, with the slight asymmetry suggesting the skip, the repetition, the daily effort behind every record ever broken.
This was the first time Cronin worked the idea. Years later he made *World Record Holder II* on a constructed circle, taking the form he had drawn here and building it as the entire painting itself. Same thesis. Different commitment to the shape.
